11/2/2018 0 Comments Haul - All Hail the Trash QueenMy mother, my sister and I set out this morning to go to a garage sale, a church sale, and the markets. Three hours since we came home and I’m still wiped out. We found so much stuff. Firstly, the garage sale. I found some brand new IKEA low fabric cubes, which are going to be very much perfect for storing clothes in my Bunnings big white 4x4 cube shelf. Price: $1. Then, as we were driving to the church sale, we spotted a HUGE pile outside someone’s house. It’s council cleanup time over here, but this stuff wasn’t the usual old suitcase, broken office chair, and scrap wood that you often get this time of year. There were clothes, shoes, books, bedding, chairs, it was amazing. My sister got a nice black wide brim felt hat. I found some black silky Playboy bedsheets (of course I’m going to wash them first!) and this cool phone case that looks like poured acrylics, or a layered stone, with glitter: Then, in a second “rubbish pile”, I found the prettiest little metal book stand! It will probably need to be sanded and repainted, but the curls, the CURLS! Sis was quick to lay claim to it, however. She does have a violin now, so maybe she’ll sit her sheet music on this. Onto the church sale. They had a deal of filling a standard plastic shopping bag (and they don’t f*ck around, they will not accept a green bag, only plastic shopping bag) for $5. Probing the piles, I found a few nice pieces. Firstly, a bunch of elastic belts. I’ve been on the hunt for wide elastic like this, in a potentially misguided idea of making my own Boobuddy. (For the uninitiated, a Boobuddy is a wide elastic band worn across the top of the breasts, intended to minimise bounce for improved comfort during sport or walking. And I need it.) actually Mum found an elastic belt on that first rubbish pile too! As well as a punky dog collar. Back to church sale clothes. A floral top (that turned out to be too small), a polka dot T, and a fox shirt which will be great as pajamas. Oh, and some actual pajamas, a onesie with Minnie Mouse all over it (not really a Minnie fan, I was just in it for the warmth once winter comes back). Next stop was the Wye markets. My boyfriend has asked me to keep an eye out for LEGO when I’m out shopping, and I saw several kilos worth of it today! Expensive stuff it is, these days. Neither bundle was worth it to him or to me. Especially considering the fact that he’s really hanging out for Star Wars LEGO, which neither of these bundles had. Several frantic (on my part) text messages later, these spotting were abandoned. Sorry guys, better luck with another buyer. Also, I tried chicken curry puffs from a vendor while at the markets. Delicious! It ended up being that the only thing I bought at the markets was a big candle scented with lavender and mint. $2 for 75 hours burn time sounds pretty good to me! . The fam and I were pretty tired after all of this, but we still had 2 stops to make. The first was to the Reject Shop. My sister was in search for props to add to the photography of her items for sale on Etsy. As for me, I looked for a glass jar to sit my new candle in. But it turns out that my candle is as fat as... well, Molang, so it didn’t end up fitting. One interesting observation at The Reject Shop was that they are, or did, sell some dot grid journals?! I found one in the clearance bin, peach coloured, of a brand called Stylus I think. None in the main part of the store though. I didn’t end up buying it this time just because I only started a new journal at the start of this year, it takes me about a year to use one up, and I already have one from Officeworks sitting in reserve. Good to see them in the wild though! Last thing of the day was groceries, nothing special there. Finally home, getting to rest my sore legs. And take selfies of my smeared makeup. It got that way from crying after accidentally hitting my poor mother in the head with the freezer door! (She’s perfectly fine, I reacted more than she did!) That’s all for today.
Love and stuff, Jess xx
